Sunday Salon - March 7-part 2

The Space Between Us by Thrity Umrigar

Moll Flanders by Daniel DeFoe

Frenchmen's Creek by Daphne du Maurier

Possession by A.S. Byatt

The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton

Midwives by Chris Bohjalian

I knew there was something I was forgetting when I was posting earlier. I was in such a rush to get to an Academy Award party that I completely forgot to tell you about the books I picked up Friday at the Friends of the Library book sale. I promised myself that I would only take in whatever cash I had in my billfold--for better or for worse, that was only $12. Still I think I did pretty well!

Which brings me to another point--when I mentioned to Ti of Book Chatter that several of you had mentioned that The Space Between Us is even better than The Weight of Heaven, she suggested that I host a read along. Since I was lucky enough to score this one the other day (and I must admit that I went after it like money left on the floor), I'm wondering if any of you would be interested in doing just that?

  1. I'm not sure what you failed at doing, but don't feel too bad. My husband set a plastic bag with the remainder of our pie on the stove burner a little while after we'd finished with dinner, not realizing the burner was still on. Burnt plastic and pie doesn't smell all that great. LOL

  2. The books listed are fabulous in their variety. Thrity Umrigar along with Chris Bohjalian and Daphne du Maurier. Wow.

  3. You scored some great books! I've read Midwives and it is an excellent book. You're lucky to have scored The Space Between Us. I want to read more of her books as well. I don't have a copy of this yet but if I did I'd be interested in a read along.

  4. I loved The Weight of Heaven, so I guess I need to get hold of The Space Between Us.

  5. Excellent set of books--I hope to read House of Mirth this year, and I read Moll Flanders so long ago, it hardly counts, but I remember being fascinated by it. Possession I read when I was pregnant for the first time, which means my retention was just about nil. Frenchmen's Creek is one of the duMaurier's I never read, but I love the premise!

    Enjoy...

  6. Have you read Midwives? Another good oprah selection. I can't wait to read secres of eden (also by Bohjalian).

I would read along with you, I have the space between us but made the mistake of borrowing it to someone before I read it... I will never see my copy again! :)

I'm enjoying the Anna readalong but Anna scares people away, ha.
